Modern Thai Art and Pottery – A cultural odyssey

November 26, 2018

Thai Art Studio and Pottery projects were very interesting and fun. We went there by public bus overnight. The drive lasted around eight hours, Talitha the coordinator of these programs went with us. In these three weeks we got to know many interesting things about different kinds of commentary Thai art. We went to museums; UNESCO heritage in Ban Chiang, a pottery museum and local galleries with beautiful paintings with stories about the North eastern region.

We learned how to recycle paper and draw and paint from a local artist. During the pottery project, we got to learn and see how traditional Thai pottery was made. Everything we made, we took home with us. We also went to the local night markets, made bracelets, drew life models on a big rice field and went to the boarders of Laos. Their, we went on the Mekong River on a boat and saw the Friendship Bridge. We also saw much of nature there, which is very beautiful. You see much of the North-East of Thailand and see something different than the rest of Thailand. A new world opens for me! The best thing we did was pottery. It was very interesting to see how it’s made in Thailand and loved doing it by myself! The people there help you for sure, but after sometime, you know how to do it and then you can almost do it by yourself. It was much fun and I would love to do it again someday.

The room we slept in was simple as the ones in Singburi but still very nice. They even have air conditioner! The rooms belong to the parents of Talitha, so we met them every day. Talitha’s parents and her aunt are very nice. Her parents tried to make it as nice as possible for us and Talitha’s aunt cooked for us. The food was very tasty – mostly Thai food but some days some western food. Once we cooked by ourselves and ate together. The atmosphere was very nice. I felt very comfortable there. We had everything we needed and all cared for us. Talitha is a very nice person and tried to get us to know as many things as she could. She helped us when we didn’t know how to draw or helped us also with our private problems. I’m so grateful for that. Talitha is a person you can trust and she will always try her best to make you feel comfortable. All in all, the projects are very good if you’re interested in in art and learning different kindsof art.
