Kieran Kirby

My time here at Greenway school has been unique and invaluable. 

When I first arrived, I was nervous as I hadn’t had experience teaching before by the teachers, students and Mr. Ya and his family welcomed me with open arms and allowed to feel confident and at home. The environment at the school is warm and lively. The students always come with a smile and in between lessons we would play games and learn more about each other. The school is full of murals and plants, making it a very inviting environment. Overtime I learned how to better communicate with the students and I learned a lot from them. From games, to Khmer phrases and about what their day to day lives are like. Spending time with the other teachers was one of the highlights of my time here. They always made me feel included and always made me smile. It was great to be around a group of such passionate people. I have loved getting to know Samrong. Going around town by bike was a very nice way to see the area and explore the lake, markets and cafes. Activities outside of school such as visiting the pagoda and the monk community forest were incredibly enriching and gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation for Cambodian history and culture. This experience has made want to continue seeking out opportunities like this and continue my learning. I have truly learned a lot and I’m eternally grateful for this opportunity.
