The Green Lion

The curious minds that were wandering about yet another Nepali festival of eating roots came to a halt on the 15th of January this year. With much zeal, The Green Lion Nepal family along with the participants observed the “Makar Sankranti” festival happily.

Makar Sankranti is one of the most celebrated festivals in Nepal by all the castes. This festival marks the beginning of warmer days. So, TGL Nepal family could not stay away from celebrating this occasion like every other family in the country.
The day started with the smell of delicious food from the kitchen. And the festival commenced with the ritual where our country director Mr. Rajesh Shrestha put tika on everybody’s forehead which followed by blessings. Then he blessed the team members and participants by pouring mustard oil. While Oiling the head was the major attraction, where nobody missed an opportunity to tease the fellow participants.

Amusement and excitement was in the air while the participants got to taste different and delicious food items such as Taro Roots, Yam, Chaaku (retreated molasses), Tilaura and Til ko Laddu ( a chewy candy made out of sesame seeds and sugar), clarified butter known as Gheu, sweet potatoes etc. All these are the healthy sources of good nourishment that helps in warming up the body and prevent diseases.
