“The experience from Caroline Heydenfluth”

I liked all the projects I joined at The Green Lion. That includes Renovation, Special Needs Project and last but not least Body and Mind. The first two projects were in my opinion helpful for the kids/families that the projects are for. The third one is good to relax especially for my last week, after 13 weeks of other projects. In the renovation project, 2 other girls and I painted the community center from the inside together with Yashika and Deepraj. At all we needed 4, 5 weeks for that and it turned out to be really good. The other part of the weeks after finishing the Center, the girls and I drew a big picture of Ganesha to hang up in the community center. The other three weeks of my 5 weeks of renovation, I spent in the special needs kids class in the school for the Hearing Impaired. I painted some things on the wall that are hopefully helpful for the teachers and kids (alphabet, colors, vegetables, fruits and clothing). And it also makes the class room happier and more colorful.

During my weeks at the Special Needs Kids class I tried to practice writing (coordination of hands and eyes) and concentration with them. From time to time I tried to work with new kids that had not joined the class because it was easier to handle and to help everyone properly. Yashika was a very good help to manage the kids and she got along with the kids very well. I also played some games with the kids like football or Judo. I will miss these kids very much. In my last week, I joined yoga classes and massage/ therapy sessions in the Body and Mind Program. I like it. Especially because I have a lot of time for myself to visit the city a few more times in my last days. During the whole time I joined the community center project every afternoon. In my first week we just taught English to the kids. After few weeks, we did English on Monday, Mathematics on Tuesday, Science on Wednesday and a revision on what we did during the week which is on Thursday. And Friday, like always, is the Games day, where we play with the kids, watch a movie or dance. I really liked the community center and I loved the kids. The food in the house is always perfect and tasty. The house and everything around that was more than I actually expected. We have a big bathroom, a good bed, a nice kitchen and a terrace which is amazing.

During my free time, I visited the city, travelled to Jasalmer with the road trip, had a horse ride in the landscape of Udaipur and explored the city. We visited many different restaurants and tried so many kinds of different foods. We also liked the Animal Aid Organization and stayed there for hours to spend time with the animals. The coordinators were very helpful during my time here and I really enjoyed spending time with them.
