While for most of us getting a health checkup is on our to do list, it’s often lost on us for one reason or another, until we fall sick and the doctor asks us to under go one. We believe individuals should get a health check-up done on a regular basis to solidify their good health and wellness. Let us elaborate our perspective with the following reasons.
Many Diseases do not have major symptoms until itβs too late. The mild symptoms might get ignored in our busy lives. Getting a health checkup is like looking for that first mouse in the house before it breeds and lays havoc to hygiene at home. As we will not ignore the first mouse in the house when we see one, similarly potentially high risks to our health, might not be visible until we get experts to look for them.
The Green LionΒ India organized a free medical health check-up camp for students and women (Women Empowerment Project) on 12th February 2019 at TGL Kindergarten, Corjeum, Aldona. The camp was organized for the villagers of Aldona who are migrant community (e.g., Maharashtra, Bihar, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh etc.) living on the outskirts of cities for almost a year. Slums area always lack by some basic necessities of Life clean water, electricity and sanitation. After a hard and low-earning working day, most of the women and village children cannot fulfill their basic needs and due to these problems they are not able to think about their health. To overcome these problems free health-check up camp was organized. The camps focused on detection and treatment for acute illnesses, provision of health education and spreading awareness about maternal health.
The camp was organized in association with the Primary Health Centre, Aldona. Services like free physical examination and health awareness sessions were delivered with the assistance of the hospital staff including a physician, a nurse and a helper along with the camp coordinator. A detailed and thorough check up facility was also extended, at the Primary Health Center, to a girl who was suffering with congestion in her chest region.
Approximately 10 children and 8 women from the Shining Star Project turned up for the checkup. Free medicines were also offered in addition to free medical consultation to the people. The initiative turned out to be a huge success with the collaborative efforts of the hospital staff and The Green Lion coordinators. The camps were organized for a Better Health, an initiative for better future of Villagers of Aldona.
