Experience of Julia Nickel from Germany

I have been in the construction and renovation project in Lovina for 8 weeks + one week the introduction week. I really loved the time here, it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I had so much fun doing the project.

And for me it was really nice and helpful to learn about the Balinese culture in the introduction week, it’s really interesting to get to know the differences between the cultures. I think the best part about my time in the project was that you could see that we were helping the community and that our work was really useful for them.

Also, I always had fun at work and I think it was so nice that I did so many different things during the time, like painting a wall, installing tiles and building a wall. Drawing finding Nemo in a classroom in a kindergarten was definitely my favorite project and I had so much fun doing it, I really loved it.

You learned really fast how the work is done, even though it seemed kind of strange at first because we don’t have the same tools as in Germany, but you get used to it quickly. And almost every week Rudy was my coordinator, which was nice because he was a great help, showed us how the work is done and working with him just was always fun! Actually all coordinators on Lovina were always so friendly and helpful, I really enjoyed the time with them and I will really miss them. If we had problems we could always talk to them and we would figure out how to solve them.

Also, the food was good and our rooms were always clean. So thank you to the cookers and cleaners! And if something, like our AC, wasn’t working correctly it was fixed really fast. This place actually started to feel like a second home to me and the people became like family. I made so many friends during my stay in The Green Lion, who I will miss so much when I am home. Everyone was so nice here. Also, I liked it that you were able to travel on the weekends to see many different places in Bali. I just had an amazing time here and I really hope that I get the chance to come back one day!
