Teaching Experience in Vietnam

During my month in Vietnam, I joined on the English teaching project. While on this project I helped students over the age of 18 (usually college students) improve their English skills. All the students were a delight to teach, many of them strive really hard to improve their English. The students create a welcoming environment for us by engaging in conversations and sharing everything from good times to Vietnamese snacks. Lessons involve going through English vocabulary and helping to improve the basics that the students have previously learned. In hindsight, I wish I had learned a bit more of the Vietnamese language (though it is very difficult) and familiarized myself with English grammar, as the students have a strong grasp of grammar and I couldnβt always find a reason for English grammar. It was an amazing environment to teach in, the other participants are great to bounce off and the students are always up for a game of sorts. My coordinators were awesome, they always made sure we knew what was expected and what was going on and ensured that we were comfortable during the whole experience. Iβd recommend teaching to anyone that has patience, understanding, enjoys teaching and loves a good game of charades.
