December is a month of exams and as well as vacations. For our kids it is a very busy month. At our Special School and Community Outreach program we were also busy preparing the kids for the exams. They have half yearly exams which is very important for them because 10% of this examβs marks will be added in their final exam. After the exams, kids get their long awaited winter vacation for 7 days. This vacation gives them time to relax from their studies.
At our community outreach, we along with our participants have been helping and teaching the students in preparation for the exams. Our participants teach them Mathematics, English and science at the community center. Kids eagerly attend our classes to learn from our participants. They come with their questions and problems at school and we help them with these as well. At the hearing impaired and mentally challenged school we taught until the vacations and we continued our outreach program during the vacation in the mornings and evenings both. We could see the happy faces of the kids who were so eagerly waiting for their classes every day.
So, as this is the month of celebration, we did not forget to share the festival with the kids. Kids as well as the participants were excited to celebrate Christmas. The celebration was held at the community center where all the kids took part in various fun activities. The most special event was the dance competition. Kids practiced for the competition in the mornings with the participants and they had classes in the evenings.
So the dancing competition took place with the presence of all of us, the kids, the participants and even some of the parents were also present. And it was so much fun!. Kids participated in four different groups according their age. They did four different dancing performances. Everyone enjoyed the competition and especially we were so happy to see the smiling faces of the parents who were seeing their kids perform to the audience.Β And the winners got presents. And no one was disappointed because there were Christmas gifts for everyone and at the end of the competition snacks too!
The day was well spent and memorable for all of us. The smiling faces of the kids and happiness of the parents was amazing to watch. So that is how this Christmas for us in Udaipur was something more than the usual.
