Holi in Nepal | The Festival of Colors around the World

March 22, 2019

The Green Lion

Holi, known as the festival of colors, has a long tradition which lies deeply in Hinduism. In the early morning, our day started with our Country Director Rajesh Shrestha applying Tikas and painting our faces with bright colors like red, yellow, orange and giving us blessings, distributing sesame sweets and wishing everyone A Happy Holi . After the rituals, the enthusiastic souls were energized with the delicious appetite, and everyone was excited and joyful.

All the participants started getting ready by applying sunscreen, oils, and wearing comfortable clothes to celebrate Holi. By 11:00 am, everyone gathered in the ground, along with the staff of The Green Lion Nepal, to make the festive more joyous and colorful. They started chasing each other in the fields with dry packets of powder and splattering the colors randomly on each other from head to toe.

Every participant was looking beautiful with multiple colors on their faces. Holi is more community oriented festivals. Where all the people of community gathered and splash the colored water and color powdered on each other. Then the participants and staff joined the community, roamed around the houses and shared the love and joy with the locals. This festival, not only summoned our participants attending programs in Kathmandu, but even the participants who were on the trails of Annapurna Base Camp were united by the colors of joy.

The best part of the Holi is the fact that everyone has a smile on their face, whether they are enjoying the company of their friends or chasing the foes around the street.
