“The experience from Ducoder.Org (World Children’s Association)”
Based in Istanbul Turkey, Ducoder.org (in English- World Children’s Association) has been helping youngsters on a global level for a few years. This organization was founded by a group of ordinary, caring people, who wanted to be part of the solution for issues facing children specifically, because they recognize that breathing life into our children is the key to a brighter future.
This group decided to step their giving up to the next level in 2017 and establish an actual charity, instead of just staying as an informal collaboration of friends. This way, they could demonstrate to others, how much can be accomplished when people work together for a united cause and could engage others in their projects of giving. They are on a mission to plant as many seeds of hope and to foster the resilience of these amazing children, so that they are able to blossom into the fullest versions of themselves!
They do this through concerted efforts with well established local organizations and schools to meet the educational, housing, food, clothing, social and psychological needs of these children, in a way that makes the greatest use of the donations that have been made by those who have chosen to answer the call for help. The vision is to create a greater awareness for the giver and receiver, that reminds us all of our connectedness. They believe that by helping children, we are in essence creating a better future.
We were very fortunate to have the Ducoder.Org representative choose to work with The Green Lion team in Vietnam to connect to community members in need within Ho Chi Minh City and in Vinh long (which is located in the Mekong Delta region). Through the efforts of Ducoder’s founding member Sinem Nam and one of our local staff members Tuyen Le, organizations and schools in need of support from these areas were targeted for assistance.
Generous donations in Vinh Long included more than 1000 kilograms of rice, 100 kilograms of sugar, hundreds and hundreds of cartons of milk, rice crackers, and more than 3000 packages of instant noodles and other items, to a local home for those able bodied and children with disabilities that currently have no other family to care for them.
At a local school in Vinh Long, repairs were made to damaged ceilings and floor tiles, classrooms were painted and a dilapidated bathroom got a new toilet and sink, as well as the labor needed to install them. The children and staff at the school were so excited and appreciative of the kindness and generosity of Ducoder.org, that they chose representatives from their 8th grade classes to share their gratitude in their very best English. It was a phenomenal experience to get to meet them all and to see it all come together in a way that is directly benefiting the children in this very deserving school, which is the source of learning for more than 2000 children grades 6 to 9.
30 Students at another local school, whose families do not have the financial means, were provided with a full year of health coverage thanks to Ducoder.Org. Some of the children who were old enough to write, gave a little note of thanks on the back of their pictures which were taken during the day of our visit.
In Ho Chi Minh, the charitable giving continued. Two bikes were provided to the students at a local children’s home, as well as loads of food, milk, yogurt, baby food, diapers clothing and other needed items like shampoo. Older children were also able to enjoy a special lunch of pizza and chicken and were able to wear some of their newly received outfits that day.
At the final stop along this journey, Sinem chose to return to a daycare center for children with special needs where she had been able to assist last week, to provide a scholarship to a couple of students whose families were struggling to cover the school fees. Ducoder.org was happy to do this, as well as provide other donated items because she could see firsthand how helpful this school is to the development of these children and the assistance that is provided to the families who are learning how to manage the challenges that arise for their beautiful children.
There is little more that can be said than the greatest of Thank You’s to the employees of Polimeks, everyone else who so thoughtfully gave and all those who continue to provide their charitable efforts to keep the organization running behind the scenes. We know that there is a lot of fundraising and commitment that is required to make an event like this come to fruition and we at The Green Lion and TGL Vietnam salute the energy and efforts of all who made this possible.
