July mornings dawned with the strength of a new day in Tarrafal, a quiet fishing village in the Cape Verdean Islands. Every day, we left the house on a mission to accomplish. Along with the coordinators, the participants marched into the Summer Camp for the local children organized by us. While some of them participated in the child care program and the others in the teaching program.

 

 

The education program was all about fun, games, and learning activities for the children. The action-packed weeks brought the local communities together who bonded with the participants while working together on the beach and at the school. The children were taken around the village to learn to identify places and their surroundings. These group learning activities helped them to spell words in English and to draw objects and coloring.

Others at our sea turtle conservation project involved themselves in cleaning the beach for the upcoming nesting season. They also went on night patrols while assisting the night guards at the beach.

Indeed, the participants made a road of their own in the strangest places.
