As you read this update from The Green Lion Vietnam, I hope that you and your loved ones have been staying healthy and safe during this unprecedented time. During our time of social distancing, and limited functions at your program, we have been active in the community to help curve the spread of the Corona virus (COVID 19) and ease the burden of those who are affected financially from the extended economic halt.

One of the activities we are most proud, was our involvement with the local childcare facility. In order to increase sanitation access for the residents in the childcare facility (housing approximately 50 children), we have arranged for a plumbing company to fix their toilets and wash basins – as hand washing and basic hygiene is key to preventing the spread of the virus.  In addition, to help boost their morale and health, we provided a nice meal for the children, and ensured a small food reserve was provided so that they may have easier access for basic nutritional needs during this difficult time.  Furthermore, we provided a full disinfection and sanitation of the facility, and purchased tools necessary for continued cooking and hygiene.

Using the contingency fund saved in The Green Lion Vietnam account, and contribution from our own staff, we have been able to collect adequate funds to donate to a local charity to buy basic food staples. With the funds donated, it was estimated that they can provide approximately 100 gift bags for people in need.  A cash donation was made, rather than purchased goods, as the local charities are able to more efficiently purchase foods in bulk at wholesale prices. Furthermore, some of our staff members have graciously contributed their time at the local food shop to assist in preparing food for the homeless as staffing shortages and increased demand have been an issue.
